MRSA not reportable in Hawaii ?

terwilligernancy asked:

I recently went surfing in Kuhio Beach, Waikiki, I contracted MRSA I was surfing everyday, 3 hrs per day. There are no warning signs posted on the beaches about the high levels of mrsa colonies found in the ocean water. University of Hawaii has conducted many tests and they are aware of the high levels of mrsa. When is the government of Hawaii going to STEP UP and be responsible and at least let the public know, give them information and post warning signs on the swimming beaches. Why isn’t Hawaii reporting their MRSA cases??? Come on Hawaii and DO THE RIGHT THING!!!!!

Well, you can go to the department of health website and report this. Many people contacted them and the next day a spokesman is on the news warning people about watever the problem is.

MRSA is a terrible thing to have.

KITV news always has a health report you can call or e-mail them about your concerns then they will report it on the news.

If you tell the news that the city didn’t do anything and many people not just you got MRSA, that will be the citys downfall.

I’m sorry to hear that you contacted MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus)…which is a staph infection or more commonly known as a bacterial infection.

In the recent past year and a half a major sewer water line pipe broke open in downtown Honolulu at the Ala Wai Canal…and the solution was made by the Mayor…

to run it into the canal and down to the ocean…yes that’s what they did…and unfortunately there have been major consequences since…..one being a life lost…and several sick infected people…

So yes, I do agree with you…Hawaii is not a very responsible state when it comes to disasters…

They are not educated or all knowing like the politicians and law makers in the mainland.

Because they are a bunch of gutless wonders afraid they will loose tourism because of this. Our state government is one of the most crooked in the country. They actually let cruise ships dump their waste into the ocean as long as the ship is 3 miles from shore. The planning dept. has allowed overdevelopment with an infrstructure at least 15 years behind the times. In Hawaii, it is all about the tourist dollar, nothing more. The sewer treatment plants are almost overflowing, the pipes are all rusted, and they have sewer spills in the ocean a lot. Here the state spends all kinds of money trying to attract tourists and they are their own worse enemies, because of all the things they have not done to keep our oceans clean. Yes, the almighty dollar means more to them than the environment. It is getting worse too.
