The Hawaiian island chain (and there are about 15 islands – far more than the five tourist-centered islands) resulted from ancient volcanic activity. There are still active volcanos on the big island of Hawaii and on Maui. Some of the volcanic activity is still happening underwater as well, and in a few thousand years or so, another island may surface as a result of this acdtivity.,

Well, so many complete and total years ago ever continent was together and it was called Pangea. Then as years went by continents started seperating and land serpearted and became countries and states and so on. I learned that in Science. lol.
