Car Doesn’t Shine Enough? Time For Chrome

As we all know, the United States experienced an amazing Baby Boom. It paralleled a growing economy and a desire to live the good life after years of fear and tight wallets.

Barreling along with the strong economic tide was a robust car industry. Manufacturers added manufacturing as fast they could to meet this new demand from post-war consumers and an expanding middle class. The number of new drivers searching for cars increased daily as did the manufacturer’s want for their dollars. Technology and style teamed together to satisfy the demand for new designs – a sign of customers’ changing tastes and hunger for status.

The dominant style of the 50s was chrome with a little more chrome thrown in. Chrome showed up in grills that the blind could see coming, bold tail-fins as well as chrome center caps and hubs, consumers couldn’t seem to get enough of the sun-reflecting metal. The more, the better.

This fascination with the shine and sparkle of chrome is alive and kicking with today’s car enthusiasts. And who can blame them? Chrome resists corrosion, is able to be tinted and gosh darn it, is just visually appealing – sorta like diamonds, sparkles and blinking lights… just more manly.

Using electroplating almost every car part can be covered with chrome. Center caps for rims and designer rims are popular ways to upgrade the fashion statement of your vehicle, too.

This chrome plating can be applied at various thicknesses, so look at the specifications to get an idea of what wear resistance one can reasonably expect. If you can’t find it, ask the salesperson. A better idea is to ask the manufacturer. Do your due diligence before you lay down your money. Don’t catch yourself a case of “rim remorse” – particularly if it cost you your paycheck.

With the help readilyavailable on the web, locating parts can be done by either the manufacturer’s part number or the Hollander id. Another choice is to employ a locator service to find the chrome lug nuts, chrome wheel center cap sets, chrome rims and other chrome pieces that can transform your ride from blah to blingin’!
