A staircase consists of a lot of stair parts including Balustrades and staircase spindles
The amount of information needed to be absorbed is always astonishing to people when starting a self built project. Wooden staircases are just one part of this. You must abide in all the Building regulations which are really daunting. You must also choose the proper doors, windows, walls and roofs. Attachment of staircases has the main role in the house and choosing stairs may not seem so simple to people who have encountered stairs for the first time.
The first question that is likely to be posed by people looking for a staircase is “what information do I need to begin looking for my stair?” You must know what kind of look you want your staircase to achieve by tying in the rest of the property with it which is the major feature of the room. If the house has more wood feature in it then a wood staircase without anything in it could blend well with it. For a house that is contemporary, a staircase with a centre spine made of stainless steel and glass would be the best. By trying for more options can widen your chances of finding the right one. The search for new stairs includes the measurements in it which is the floor to floor height. This will start from the staircase surface to its exit surface. It also needs to include all finishes (e.g. screed, oak flooring etc, carpet etc.) to enable the staircase to line up correctly. The stairwell which is the staircase path up above must be measured with its length and width’s opening. A normal stairwell come into 2800mm long by 900mm wide but with the spirals, overall diameter is requires instead. The outline of your staircase is relevant to the rough shape of the stairs. Domestic staircases come in many arrangements including a straight flight staircase, a quarter turn staircase and a half turn staircase. If you want more arrangement you may choose the three quarter turn or the Z shape stair. With these advance thoughts you may now know exactly what you will choose.
These are terms that will be uses regarding a staircase which must be known such as rise, tread, going, balustrade, spindles, stringer and winders. Tread refers to the part that is walked upon. The upper side of the tread above and the vertical distance between the top of the tread is the “rise” and the gap between the treads are called the “riser gap”. The horizontal gap between the front edge of one tread to another above/below and adding it up all can get the overall gap. Stair parts are the many components that make up staircases Apt to the Handrail, Newel Post and spindles is the “Balustrade”. The beginning of the staircase and the end of it is the Newel Post which supports the Handrail.
The “Spindles” which can be vertical or horizontal are smaller posts that run from the handrail to the treads. “Stringer” is the large, solid section which runs along each tread connecting together. The stringer supports the staircase on both sides but with cantilevered stairs may not have stringers or may acquire only one. Lastly “Winders” are treads which form the turn of staircase; they are angled treads, typically forming 20-30 degrees of a turn. More technical ideas are available for your staircase but know that you have been given dimensions and few terms that are seen above, no more daunting obstacle but a simple task.
